Mens buns & Beards Barbershop.
A full branding and website package for a new hipster barbershop opening in Belfast, serving beer and unique bakes.
Mens Buns and Beards is a project based on a new hipster Barbershop opening in Belfast. I worked on the creation of the full brand package including, logos, posters, flyers, business cards, menus and a full website using HTML and CSS. This project was created as part of my Foundation Degree.
I decided to use a text based logo in order to maintain a clean and professional focus. The logo is a neutral colour in order to stand out against different backgrounds and I focused on a colour scheme of bottle green, black and white.
Print material
For this barbershop I created a range of print material to help promote this grand opening. These posters would be displayed around Belfast prior to the opening and also in the store window. I wanted to use a clean and professional style for these posters including hipster elements in order to portray the hipster vibe from the outset. I used an image of an old fashioned style barbershop chair for one of the posters and focused on the use of black and white. I also used an image of a chesterfield sofa for another poster as this was the style of sofa which would be placed in the waiting area for the clients.
I focused a lot on the use of text more than imagery as the information which the customer needs is going to be found in the text rather than the images. The limited use of imagery in these posters helps focus the viewers attention to the information in-front of them and allows for minimal distractions. They can easily access all the information they need.
Menu
I created a menu for this barbershop which would be placed on the shop window to entice people into the barbershop. Customers can clearly see what services are available in this shop before they enter. This menu could also be used as a handout displayed on the mirror at each barber chair for the customer. This menu includes some unique names for the different hairstyles offered within this barbershop as well as an illustration to show what each of these haircuts looks like. I thought this would be a good way for the customer to understand what each of the unique names for haircuts actually are, without having to ask the barber.
Website
Mens Buns and Beards required a website in order to allow customers to look up their services which are on offer. I created this website using a 12 column grid system. This website would also be used to promote the business and each of the barbers in the shop. I wanted to include a meet the barbers section on this site so that customers could learn about each of the barbers in the shop and the experience they have in cutting hair. This may help new customers decide which barber they would prefer to cut their hair. I photographed other students in the class to act as barbers for this site. The Mens Buns and Beards website was uniquely created from scratch. I illustrated barbershop icons for the bottom of the site in order to give it a more unique style.
The Mens Buns and Beards Barbershop website can be found here.
