Takahe Bird.
A website to display information about the Takahe bird.
The purpose of this project is to create a narrative website using content which would usually be found on the National Geographic website about the Takahe bird and change the style to something completely different. This project was designed to demonstrate my HTML and CSS skills and how they can compliment my illustration skills.
The content for this site was about a previously thought to be extinct bird called a Takahe. The Takahe bird was originally discovered by Dr. G. B. Orbell. The Takahe bird was thought to be extinct until famously rediscovered in the Murchison Mountains in 1948.
For this project I decided to focus on a fully illustrated version of the National Geographic website. I took all the information for this site from an article online. I had to tell the story of the 'Extinct' New Zealand bird. I decided this style of site could be more useful for the National Geographic if they wanted to target a younger audience.
The National Geographic is a clean and sophisticated website aimed at older audiences. I think using this illustrated style the National Geographic could potentially target a much younger audience. This website could be used by schools to help teach children a history lesson about the Takahe bird, where it comes from and what type of habitat it lives in.
Each element of this website is illustrated using Adobe Illustrator and manipulated in order to be used on the site correctly using Adobe Photoshop.
The full Takahe website can be found here.
